Singapore participated in the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, an international agreement to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases. Also, the National Energy Efficiency Committee (NEEC) was formed in 2001 to promote energy saving. Singapore supports both the 1985 Vienna Convention and the 1987 Montreal Protocol, which is to protect the earth's ozone layer. To prevent contamination, Singapore practices sound management, transportation, disposable of hazardous waste.
